![]() Lastly, I examined the way in which human rights establish a grammar of social life by connecting the realms of moral, legal, and political life. ![]() By dealing with the main concepts of human dignity, rights, and civil duties, I then tried to demonstrate how Kant’s ideals still shine through. The following part is an attempt to bridge the gap between latent, ideational norms and the manifest, statutory charter of human rights in the form of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights due to its unique position as an historical international agreement. After giving a brief overview of the political landscape of the Enlightenment era, the paper delves into Kant’s philosophical groundwork and their implications. ![]() More precisely, my research question shall be posed as follows: How does Kant derive and justify human rights and in what way has he thereby contributed to the Declaration of Human Rights? This is being approached by first assessing the particular historical situation in which Kant developed his ideas. ![]() The aim is to contribute to its history of ideas by tracing back fundamental thoughts, deficiencies, or even counter-theses to Kant’s practical philosophy. This paper examines the concept of human rights with regard to Immanuel Kant’s moral and political philosophy of the Enlightenment. ![]()
